We made it home to Hart Ranch today, and it was really fun seeing everyone again. It's rainy and cold here, but we got unloaded and will finish getting settled tomorrow.
This is the first time we've made it in 4 days - without any weather delays!
Mike starts work on Monday, and I'll start this Friday.
It's great to be back!

HOME
It's always a let down coming back from vacation; even if you're coming back to your full time RV home. I think it's all the unpacking and laundry that has to be done. UGH.
We had a wonderful, exciting, and sceninc trip - 1782 miles. Not as far as originally planned, but on the upside we did get to go through Death Valley - one of our favorite spots on earth.
Now we're getting ready to get loaded and head out on Wednesday toward Hart Ranch. It'll be good to be back home.
Stay tuned for more adventures!

Pahrump, NV
Today we got up very early to beat the heat. We packed up and were in Pahrump by 10:30. It was a nice ride, one of our favorites from Stovepipe Wells, through Furnace Creek and into Pahrump.
We set up camp - we're in one of the nice pull-thrus with a view of Mt. Charleston (which has no snow by the way!) and then had lunch at the winery. Oh what a spread they put on! It would have been dinner, but they had no reservations because it's prom night, so we had a late lunch.
Tomorrow we head back to the Oasis Las Vegas RV resort. We'll get loaded up on Tuesday, and then head for Hart Ranch on Wednesday. We're looking forward to getting back to work; it's going to be a very busy summer!
This was a great trip - lots of really fun/technical rides. We're already thinking about what we're going to do next year!

Death Valley
On Friday we left Bakersfield and headed through Tehachapi over to highway 14 that connects to 395. What a beautiful ride! Then we got on 190 that winds through the Panamint Mountains over to Death Valley. We stopped at Father Crowley Point to take pictures, and then landed in Stovepipe Wells to camp.
Talk about HOT!!! It was cool going over the mountains, but at Stovepipe Wells it was 100 and really miserable setting up camp. Once we got the camper up, we headed straight to the bar for beer and to sit in the air conditioning.
It cooled off at night, and there were a million stars. There was no cell service, so we couldn't use the "star app" to see what we were looking at, but it was beautiful just the same!

Atwater, CA and Changing Plans AGAIN!
Last night we had a great time visiting with Bill and Theresa at their house. I can't believe I forgot to get pictures - AAARRRRGGGGHHHH - not one of Bill and me!
We had a great meal - Indian cuisine from their local favorite place. The only thing I missed was seeing Megan - she had a late class and hadn't got home by the time we left. We only had about 15 miles to go back to the RV park, but I don't do well driving in the dark, and we wanted to get back. I'm really sorry I missed her. She's graduating from UC Merced in May, and then is heading to Cal Tech for her Phd in Chemistry. One Smart Chica!
Today we rode about 180 miles to Bakersfield and are at the same RV park we stayed on the way out. Tomorrow we head to Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley. That is one of our favorite places. It should be a beautiful ride over there - going over the Panamint Mountains.
Then we'll go to Pahrump for a night - we're going to stay by the winery - there's a nice RV park there.
The change in plans are that Tim Schnabel from Hart Ranch called and they're short of people in the Maintenance department so he wants Mike up there ASAP! Sooooo, we're heading back to Vegas via Death Valley and Pahrump. Then, we'll get loaded and head out on Wednesday the 22nd. That'll put us at Hart Ranch the 27th or so, WEATHER permitting!
SEE! Everything happens for a reason - THAT"S WHY we cut our coastal trip short, only we didn't know it at the time. ;-)

Changing Plans AGAIN!
It rained half the night, and the tent canvas was pretty soaked - we even had drips on the inside. Thank goodness it stopped around midnight, and with the little heater running in the tent things got fairly dry.
This morning we were able to dry most of it out and get it packed up. (I would hate to have to pack that tent up while it was raining!) Since the lows tonight in Eureka were supposed to be in the 30's, and it snowed on the pass we were going to take - we decided to bag the rest of the coast trip. (I know, what wussies - it's mostly me) It was cold today, but sunny and beautiful - we had everything on. I had my Frog Togs on over the chaps and jacket just to help break the wind.
So, we rode the rest of Highway 1 - up the coast and through the redwoods - curves and switchbacks - a really stunning and tiring ride.
When we hit 101 we turned south toward Willits. Just south of Willits we hit CA-20 and headed east to Williams. That was a beautiful ride through Lake County - by Clear Lake. It was very green, and the lakes were full - very surprising given the drought.
We're spending tongiht in Williams (in a motel) and tomorrow we'll be in Delhi which is close to Atwater where Bill lives. We'll see Bill and Theresa tomorrow night.
After that we decided to go back to Las Vegas via Death Valley (thanks Angie and Victor for that suggestion!). We'll stay in Stovepipe Wells and then a couple of days in Pahrump before heading back to Las Vegas.
I've decided I'm a fair weather rider - I don't like cold/rain/wind. :-)

A Relaxing Day in Ft Bragg
Today we slept in and didn't have to jump up and pack up everything. It was nice to be able to cook breakfast and have coffee.
We got some laundry done, and then rode into town for lunch - we were craving seafood. We found out that the movie "Overboard" with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell was filmed here, and we recognized the bridge from the restaurant window. We also got to watch a seal swim by from our table.
We had a great lunch, including Dungeness crab - my favorite. We had a lazy afternoon, we met some new friends here at the RV park and had happy hour with them, and then it started pouring rain!
Now we're in the tent, hoping to stay dry for the night. It's supposed to stop raining sometime tonight, and so tomorrow we'll decide what we're going to do next. We don't want to pack everything up wet - so we'll want to wait a while to see if it will dry out a little. Oh well, we can be flexible!

EEEwwwwwwwww
Look what was crawling in our campsite! UGH! A big ole' banana slug. Yuck. They are very common in the damp redwood forests along the northern coast. Blech!!!
PCH 4/12
Today's ride was AWESOME! This was the road we were looking for. From Stinson Beach to Fort Bragg - 172 miles total from Mill Valley - all curves and spectacular views. It was crystal clear, no fog, and warmer than normal temps. It was still a cool ride - we had all our clothes on all day.
We're exhausted, and we like the campground here at Fort Bragg, so we're going to stay two nights.
SUCH FUN!!!

PCH Day 3
YAY!! We finally made it to the coast and actually rode on Highway 1. It was a beautiful day, and the weather was perfect. The ride was great until we got to San Francisco. It was stop and go for about 15 miles until we got across the Golden Gate.
If you had told me when I was still living here that I would ride a motorcycle in San Francisco I would have thought you were crazy! The traffic was terrrible, but we made it through and got to Mill Valley to see Andrew and Doug. Andrew picked us up in his latests Rolls Royce - it's beautiful of course and even has a fridge in the back seat arm rest and a liquor/bar in the seat back!
Andrew and Doug cooked us a wonderful dinner, and their friends Jeff and Todd came to visit from Portland and were there for dinner too. It was a fun evening, and SO GOOD to see Andrew and Doug again after all this time.

Changing Plans
Today we left Bakersfield and had a SPECTACULAR ride on CA-58 from Buttonwillow to Santa Margarita. Oh was it beautiful! Not as green as it should have been, but the curves and the overlooks were breathtaking.
We rode to Atascadero to get gas and lunch. I tried to call the RV park in Marina to get a reservation, and they said they were all booked up. Several other RV parks in the area were booked up as well. YIKES. I'm glad we didn't start over to the coast and find we didn't have a place to stay. (Friday night, spring break, etc). So, we found a BEAUTIFUL park in Greenfield; it's on 101 - not the PCH, but it was a nice ride. If you're ever passing through - it's called Yank's and it's first class - all paved, concrete sites, really nice.
So, tomorrow we'll head over to Carmel via Carmel Valley Road and ride about 200 miles to Mill Valley to see Andrew and Doug. One of the employees here at the RV park recommended the road - it's curvey and over the mountains through the Ventana Wilderness - it should be a great ride. Can't wait.
More tomorrow.....

PCH Adventure - Day 1
4/9/15 After talking about it for a year, we're FINALLY on our way. We left Las Vegas today, and made it to Bakersfield. I had all my clothes on: long underwear, chaps, leather jacket, rain jacket. It was quite chilly and VERY WINDY on I-15 to Barstow, and most of the way on CA-58 to Bakersfield. We made it, and now we're having wine and cheese. Tomorrow we actually hit the coast.
Here we are in Bakersfield, having wine and cheese.
We forgot our selfie stick. ;-)
Here we are almost ready to go!

Hooters
Today we were on our way to our old neighborhood to visit friends, and noticed a new Hooters! Of course we had to go for lunch.
It was their grand opening, and we were their very first customers!! It was fun - and the food was great. They even put this picture on their Facebook page! Go to "Hooters Eastern" in Facebook to find it.
