Friday, February 7th, was our first HH stay. We chose the Lakeside Golf Club in Canyon Lake Texas because it was on the route, and only 100 miles from where we had stayed on Thursday night.
We got in around 11 am, and we were greeted like we were old friends. All of the employees were so welcoming and friendly. Lisa in the Pro shop in particular made us feel very welcome. She showed us where to park, brought the golf cart out for Mike, and gave us a 15% discount on the golf! We wanted to have lunch, so she brought us into the restaurant and introduced us as HH members, so they gave us a discount as well.
The weather was perfect - low 70s and sunny - and Mike enjoyed the round. He hadn't been able to play in a month or so, so it was nice to get out.
After golf, we sat out enjoying the view of the course, watching the golfers go by. The groundskeeper even stopped to introduce himself!
At dusk, the deer came out - white tails - and there were a bunch of them. They came pretty close, and some kids that lived in the townhouse two doors down from the parking lot were feeding them. They were practically tame!
We grilled a steak and baked potatoes, and the weather was so nice we were able to eat outside.
After supper, we went for a walk on the course, and Mike found about 100 golf balls. He left them in little piles along the way, because he didn't need them. A nice surprise for the Saturday morning golfers!!
Truly a great experience. If all of the Hosts are this friendly and welcoming, this is going to be a great gig - stopovers along the route!!
