Camping trip to Tombstone
This week we took a little motorcycle trip from Coolidge to Tombstone. We camped two nights at a great RV park - the stars were spectacular!
On Wednesday we had a great ride - we made a 230 mile loop. We went through Bisbee, home to the Queen Copper Mine. The mine closed in 1975, but had run continuously for 100 years before that. It's a charming little town in the mountains of Southeastern Arizona.
We rode through Douglas (just a few miles from the Mexican border - there is a Border Patrol presence everywhere), and then on to the Chiricahua National Monument. This is an inactive volcanic range, called "Sky Islands" rising out of the desert. It was beautiful. We checked out the campground - it would be a nice place to camp, but with no electric hookups would be a little chilly at night!
Then we rode to Wilcox, through Benson, and back to our RV site just outside of Tombstone. It was one of our better rides, the weather was perfect, and the scenery beautiful.

Slingshot
Some friends of ours from Hart Ranch drove to the lunch in Casa Grande in their new slingshot. It's really cool looking. You have to have a motorcycle license to drive it, and it has a belt drive. It has three wheels like the Spyder. The seats don't look too comfy to me.
They're going to drive it from Phoenix to Hart Ranch this spring, going up US 191 which goes through Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Should be quite a trip!

Gourd Festival
Yesterday Ellen and I went to the gourd festival at the Pinal County fairgrounds. It was a gloriously beautiful day, and it was nice walking around. These artists are amazing what they do with these gourds. Here were a couple of favorites - I liked the humming bird and of course, Ellen liked the rose.

First week of February
Well, we've been having a great time here in Coolidge already. After we got here, we had a couple of beautiful sunny and warm days, and then it poured rain for several days - we had lakefront property!
The water is just now receding - after 5 days of sun!!
On Wednesday, Mike golfed with Joe - and got his first hole in one EVER! (My comment was, we'll it's about time!)
Thursday, we went to dinner with Joe and Ellen at the Windmill Winery in Florence. It was a very charming place, and the food was wonderful. They don't serve dinner all the time, but Ellen is on their mailing list, so she had the inside scoop.
Today is Friday the 6th, and we just got back from a 200 mile ride with Lee and Deb. The weather is perfect (80 here in Coolidge). We had lunch in Globe, and made a nice loop that partially followed the Gila river. The mountains are spectacular. Really a nice day!

Outside dining - very nice |
They have lots of John Deere stuff, along with animals and a lake. Really nice! |
